Cantabile of Printing White & Clear Ink

This is the new 5 color Oki printer. It prints in full process color and also has a fifth color channel which can be configured to print white or clear toner. The operator can switch the color unit from white to clear in about 2 minutes. These two new color options open up entirely new markets to digital printers. The white strikes me as being a game changer because of how many people ask about printing on off-white substrate. The white toner can be flooded underneath artwork. It will serve as a white-point and keep photos looking clear and crisp. You can control whether the white toner is above or below the image with the click of a button in the Fiery XF. You may want the white to be above the toner if for example you were printing on a clear substrate. With clear materials it’s common for the image to be viewed through the substrate, since it’s much less expensive than laminating or coating.

C941e Graphic Design on Demand

With extraordinary results that transcend expectations, this device delivers in so many ways. The revolutionary new C941e LED digital color printer features a five station toner configuration with cyan, magenta, yellow and black, plus white or clear in the fifth position; this provides an expansive new world of printing capabilities and revenue-generating opportunities. The C941e from OKI offers white or clear spot color printing and other productivity-enhancing capabilities, and is available with an EFI XF Server or Harlequin MultiRIP 10.

The C941e rides on the new C900 chassis that has been developed by OKI. This new chassis system is gearing up to be the flagship platform for Oki’s graphic arts machines. We are expecting to have an envelope feeder and conveyor system available for market in late 2014. There is also a large potential for other color options coming to market. This is not something Oki has talked about but the writing is on the wall. The RIP setup for the new platform is considerably better as well. On the C900 chassis, RIP platforms are external to the engine, meaning that the RIP can be upgraded or swapped out at any time. There are several RIP options available including the powerful Fiery XF.

One large advantage of the C900 platform is the position of the organic photo conducting (OPC) drum. The light sensitive OPC drums act as a carrier for the image and are arguably the most sensitive part of a digital press. In previous models the OPC drums were in direct contact with the paper path. This lead to early failures of drums from sheets being rubbed and abraded by thick sheets. In the new platform those drums are on the opposite side of the transfer belt and never come into contact with anything but the belt itself. This causes the drums to last considerably longer and they are far less prone to early failures.
